From Heart-To
Hand-To You Welcome to my tribute to Laurie Allen, I was originally going to
do a web page for Laurie. WITH. Laurie but on the 13th of June 2002 Laurie
passed away, so now all I can do is..FOR.. Laurie, a tribute page rather than just a web page, so
I will do the best I can because not only was he my idol from afar for 30
something years (more than I am willing to admit) but for his last 18 months
he was a very very special friend who came into my
life just when I myself needed someone to get me through a difficult time and
for this I feel so thankful and blessed. I often think how lucky was I to be
part of his Laurieland even for such a short time,
for him to have shared his memories, dreams and secrets, many deep and
meaningful talks till all hours of the morning, to share memories of the good
times of his life and the bad and to see the serious sensitive side of Laurie
that not many got to see. But most of all to be able to be there for him in
his final hours, to be there for him when he needed someone the most, to be
there for him at the start of a new journey, that in it
self as strange as it may seem to some the most precious gift I have
ever been given, no one will ever know just how much. I have tried to do this
page the way I feel Laurie would have wanted it by including as much
information as possible about his music and achievements and by including his
family and the people he cared about, emailing his mates was a joy to Laurie,
I was sometimes a little scared to send some of them off, anyone who knew
Laurie would understand what I mean. My little page may not be as funny
without the Laurie input as I am sure it would have been a classic with his
special, unique humour, but I have added a few of my funny moments just
because I know Laurie would have wanted to keep you smiling, because that was
the way he was …so take a moment to remember Laurie as you travel through my
tribute to an Australian legend, of his life and a small part of the huge
impact he made on Australian music, from 60s music to Aussie Country music,
singer, musician, songwriter, described as mega talented, unique, different,
in a world of his own, from another planet… Laurieland,
a place filled with music and laughter and a little hidden pain..With his incredible sense
of humour, possibly a little misunderstood by some. Laurie loved to make people laugh but most of all he loved to
make music and didn't he do it well...all of those ..But
for those lucky enough to have shared any part of Laurie's life and the very
few of us who were lucky enough to see the real Laurie Allen (hey Wen.) he is
just plain unforgettable. Laurie's music will go on for ever, not just in his
own music but through the people he touched and influenced and there are many
singers and musicians out there today that could well owe a small part of
their success to Laurie, whether through his music or maybe just a small
piece of well directed advice….Laurie will be
missed by many but never forgotten, I for one will make sure of that…when
Laurie passed away I made a promise that I would help keep his music alive, I
have made this my one goal, the reason for this web page, my promise to
Laurie will be kept, I only hope he is happy with what I do. If any friends or fans of Laurie’s would like to share some
stories or special moments they had with Laurie as a dedication to him I
would be more than happy to add these to my tribute so others can enjoy them,
full credit would be given of course...So I hope you enjoy my little tribute
for a wonderful friend straight from the heart, a sneak peek into Laurieland a true Aussie legend and a good
mate......Enjoy the memories, take a little wander through the various area’s
of Laurie’s life, his music, the shows he was part of , but above all please
remember Laurie and his wonderful music. I have now extended this tribute site to other area’s of Laurie’s life, people and shows that played an
important part of his life, I have also added a few people to this page I am
sure Laurie would loved to have given a helping
hand to so I hope you get a lot from the new pages I have put on here for
you…..Enjoy the journey. |

The Cowboy Album
by Laurie Allen My gift to Laurie I was recently given 8 master tapes of Laurie’s with 37
unfinished songs, this was something I along with
Warren Keats just couldn’t keep to our-selves Laurie wanted to do an album as
a tribute to the music he loved, country music. So we had a big decision to
make, big but easy, they had to be finished. Warren Keats and I made a pact… this album will be finished… for
Laurie. Luckily Waza has a home studio and the
talent to do most of the music and he knew what Laurie wanted as he had
discussed these songs with him…bringing in Les Gough to do bass and Dave Moore for pedal
steel. Well with months of
hard work it is finished, unfortunately this cd is not for sale
but it is up on Reverbnation & on my Youtube page for fans to listen to and a small run of
cd’s pressed for selected music presenters so Laurie’s music will be heard
here and Internationally and is now being archived by the National Library
Film & Sound for all time,Laurie’s music will
go on forever.……. .I love this cd, Waza you have done a
beautiful job and I know Laurie is listening and I know he approves…Laurie’s
Cowboy Album a tribute to the old cowboy songs Laurie loved but now a tribute
album to him and a tribute to the talent of Warren Keats. Thank you Laurie
and thank you Waza for making it happen. And thanks to Les Gough and Dave Moore for giving their time and
talent. Personally I think
it is the best album ever….I really do. I am sorry this cd is not for sale ( for reasons
beyond my control) All tracks are now up on Youtube and Reverbnation |
